Elizabeth Yochim is a dancer, performer, movement educator, art curator, and art appraiser based in Los Angeles, California. She is the creator of Angelbird, a mythical creature, born from the body of a dancer, the mind of an Italian art historian and the impulse of an urban fairy to create random acts of playful interaction in the streets from Los Angeles to Rome.
When she is not performing or appraising a collection of paintings, she is designing art + movement + play experiences through her organization Participlay. She has designed experiences for companies in the technology, internet and advertising sectors and has taught at the University of Southern California Steven's Institute for Innovation; The University of Michigan; The Murphy Sculpture Garden, The Hammer Museum; and at the University of California Los Angeles.
She is passionate about the arts as a catalyst for social change and better health, especially amongst multi-generational and ethnically and socio-economically diverse audiences. She has taught and directed programming in many parts of the United States for a youth and community outreach organization, Turning the Wheel Productions. She was also the Director of the International Division at Timothy Yarger Fine Art in Beverly Hills, California, overseeing all aspects of producing the gallery’s domestic and international exhibitions in Bangkok, Thailand; Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, China; and Singapore. She received her B.A. in Art History from the University of Michigan in 1995 with a specialization in Italian Renaissance Art and has lived and traveled extensively in Italy and Japan before moving to California in 2001.
